Welcome to
The Den

The home server behind dansden.xyz. A handful of self-hosted apps, run for the love of it, under the patronage of one very indignant gentleman.

This is democracy manifest

A Queensland news crew filmed the arrest of a man who would much rather have finished his meal. What they caught, all indignation and improbable vocabulary and total commitment to the moment, outlived the charges by decades. Every quote scattered across this page is his.

THE PATRON

Jack
Karlson

1942 – 2024

Petty criminal, occasional actor, and the unlikeliest laureate Australian television ever produced. One afternoon in 1991 he turned a routine arrest into four minutes of pure theatre, and the rest of us have been quoting him ever since.

He went quietly in 2024. The meal, by all accounts, was succulent.
